Guei Trial: Prosecutor seeks life imprisonment for suspects

The prosecutor in the trial of Ivory Coast’s ex-military chief Robert Guei has sought for life imprisonment for two top officials from the former regime of Laurent Gbagbo who have been accused of his murder.

Brunot Dogbo Blé, a former colonel close to former president, Laurent Gbagbo, and Anselme Seka Yapo an officer of the “Seka Seka”, have been accused of murder but have denied being involved.

The prosecutor, Ange Kessi, told the military tribunal in Ivory Coast that the accused had been complicit in the assassination of Guei thirteen years ago.

The senior officers have also been accused of ordering and organising the murders of Guei’s wife and their employees.

The trial began on January 25.

The former president of Ivory Coast and junta leader was assassinated together with his wife in September 2002.
